Iberian Cyprinodontids / Ciprinodóntidos Ibéricos

   Aphanius iberus, "Fartet"

Cyprinodontids (="toothed carps") are small fish distributed around Africa, America, Europa and Asia. There are three endemic species from Spain: Valencia hispanica, Aphanius baeticus and Aphanius iberus.

All three species are greatly endangered, some of their populations are already extinguished; men are the author and responsible for these disparitions. To the destruction and/or transformation of their habitats we can add the pollution and introduction of exotic species both predators or competitors.

This web site is dedicated to studying and preserving the Iberian Cyprinodontid species.
